AUSTRALLIAN INSTITUTE OF HEALTH AND WELFARE RELEASES 2008 REPORT

28 May 2009

The eleventh AIHW report documenting Australia’s health and welfare for 2008 was released Wednesday May 27th.  The AIHW releases reports every two years and records and compares trends in Australia’s burden of disease in society from over 20 years.

The new study  reveals a tripling in new cases of treated end-stage kidney disease with major causes from diabetes and reduced cardiovascular mortality.  End-stage kidney disease is only curable by a kidney transplant, but can be treatmented through dialysis.
