The 9th Australian Transplant Games were held in Adelaide, South Australia from 26 September to 3 October 2004.Over 1,000 participants, comprising transplant recipients, donor and living donor families and supporters from all States of Australia as well as China, England, Germany, Luxembourg, Japan, New Zealand, Sweden and the USA attended the Games.To be eligible to compete in the Games, which consisted of 12 sporting and 5 recreational events, a competitor was either on dialysis or had received one of the following transplants; kidney, heart, lung, heart-lung, liver, pancreas, corneal or bone marrow.Accommodation was organised for the Games at the beautiful resort " Adelaide Shores" in self contained villas 2 minutes from the beach.
Transplant Australia is supporting the establishment of a Foundation to raise money for the late V8 Supercar driver Ashley Cooper's partner Casey and their young children Ella and Bailey.
