Ron Clarke MBE, Gold Coast City Mayor

Mayor ClarkeGold Coast Mayor Ron Clarke’s business career has been based primarily in the accounting field however his sporting achievements are legendary.

Mayor Clarke set 19 world records between 1963 and 1970, in races ranging from 2 miles to 20 kilometres. He competed in two Olympic Games (winning a bronze medal) and three Commonwealth Games (taking home four silver medals).

He later went on to earn many community awards over the years including Father of the Year by the Australia Day Council in 1983 and Senior Australian of the Year by the National Seniors Association in 2000.

Mayor Clarke is the author of 12 books – his earliest “The Unforgiving Minute” released in 1966 and the latest “The Measure of Success” in 2003.

In his role as Teamlife Ambassador, Mayor Clarke will be helping to promote organ and tissue donation and the World Transplant Games to be staged in his beautiful city in August 2009.
