Families of Deceased Donors Branch

The Donor Family Branch of Transplant Australia welcomes membership and participation of all family members of deceased donors.

Our promise is to embrace the Gift of Life our loved ones have offered to those in need.

We strive to raise community awareness of the need for organ and tissue donation and invite family members of deceased donors to attend regular branch meetings, come and try days, social and recreational events and sporting activity days.

The Donor Family plays a large part in the Australian Transplant Games with family members competing in the supporter events and medal presentation ceremonies. The Donor Family Shield is presented at the Australian Transplant Games, Gala Dinner. Each state branch holds special events in recognition of the gifts of life and sight; these include the annual Thanksgiving Services, Rose Planting Ceremonies, Tree Planting Ceremonies, Memorial Garden Service and Miracle Dinner.

We offer a caring support network of people who have had similar experiences; education on organ and tissue donation and transplantation; joint donor family and living donor newsletters; and information on how to write to the recipient.

Poems, stories and anecdotes are always welcomed and often our Donor Family members accept public speaking roles at schools, church groups, clubs or special services.

A Donor Family is considered to be those families that have had an immediate member become a donor through tragic circumstances and living donors who have given an organ and bone marrow. Essentially, there is no discrimination between any type of donation, we have all been involved in the process of giving to improve the quality or saving of life.

Family Members of Deceased Donors and Living Donors have honorary membership but all donations are graciously accepted.
