Transplant Australia is an organisation representing transplant recipients, people currently undergoing dialysis treatment, those awaiting transplantation, donor families (including living donors) and medical professionals involved in organ and tissue donation and transplantation.

With members across Australia, ranging in ages from six months to 76 years of age, Transplant Australia is the largest support organisation of its kind in the world. It works in the areas of advocacy, promotion and support for its members.

Transplant Australia touches many lives with activities across a range of social, sporting and support services in all States.

Australian Transplant Games

Transplant Australia stages the National Transplant Games every two years. The Games are held to increase organ and tissue donation rates in Australia, to demonstrate through sport that transplant recipients are able to return to a high level of fitness and quality of life, to show gratitude to the families of organ and tissue donors and living donors, and to encourage transplant recipients and those awaiting transplantation to participate actively in sport, recreational and other activities. World Transplant Games

Australia hosted the 17th World Transplant Games on the Gold Coast in August 2009. Up to 3,000 competitors are expected to attend the Games from more than 70 countries. These Games will capture the attention of all Australians and celebrate the miracle of transplantation. World Transplant Games

Our Ambassador Program encourages high profile Australians including political leaders, celebrities and sports stars to help promote organ and tissue donation and Transplant Games. Ambassadors

Community Engagement

Transplant Australia’s Community Champions Program has a target of touching all Australians with real life examples of the miracle of transplantation. Our recipients, donor families and living donors share their experiences from their different perspectives. Community Engagement

Australian Transplant Cricket Club

Following the death of David Hookes in 2004, the Australian Transplant Cricket Club established the David Hookes Memorial Shield in honour of this great Australian cricketer. The Shield is contested every two years between Australian and British transplant recipients. The next series is to be held in Perth, Bowral and Sydney in October 2008.

The Club was named Australian Cricket Club of the Year in 2005 after winning ABC Radio Grandstand’s annual competition. Australian Transplant Cricket Club

Transplant Australia Research

Transplant Australia provides an annual scholarship for research into post-transplantation issues, including quality of life, medication compliance and other health issues.

Transplant Australia Benevolent Fund

Many transplant recipients and people on the waiting list need assistance financially just to live comfortably. Transplant Australia is striving to build an effective benevolent fund to be able to provide assistance to those most in need.
