Living Donors
Living donors have donated an organ or bone marrow to another person to help save their life and improve their general health and wellbeing.
The Living Donor Branch of Transplant Australia welcomes membership and participation of all living organ and tissue (eg: bone marrow) donors, including people who have given a living gift of life to others and those who are about to do so.
We strive to raise community awareness of the need for organ and tissue donation and invite living donors to attend regular branch meetings, “come and try” days, social and recreational events and sporting activity days. There is something to cover all interests - social, recreational or sporting.
Living donors are invited to attend and compete in the supporter events of the Australian Transplant Games and medal presentation ceremonies. The Gala Dinner, held at the end of the Australian Transplant Games, is a time for living donors to join with family members of deceased donors, transplant recipients, family, friends and supporters to celebrate life and the achievements of those who have participated in the Games. Donor families and living donors are also invited to lead the Games Parade.
Each State branch holds special events in recognition of the gifts of life and sight. These include the annual Thanksgiving Services, Tree Planting Ceremonies, Rose Planting Ceremonies, Memorial Garden Service, Miracle Dinner or Living Donor Annual Luncheons and other activities.
We offer a caring support network of people who have had similar experiences; education on organ and tissue donation and transplantation; National and State newsletters; and other information as requested. Living Donors often accept public speaking roles at schools, church groups, clubs and other organisations. It is also very beneficial for living donors to share their experiences at special services for potential living donors.
Living Donors have free honorary membership but any financial donations to help our organisation are most welcome.
