Gary Lowe - Heart recipient
Gary received a heart transplant in 1988. Gary will be long remembered for the tireless and hard work he undertook for Transplant Australia.
He was one of the founders of the NSW Branch of Transplant Australia back in 1990, Gary became our first President, serving from 1990 to 1997. In 1992 Gary initiated NSW hosting the 3rd Australian Transplant Games held in Bathurst, which proved to be a tremendous success.
In one of his many activities to promote organ donation, Gary rode a pushbike for 200kms from Launceston to Hobart in Tasmania.
Gary was also very competitive in sports having competed in both the World and Australian Games, which resulted in him winning various medals. Gary was also the Australian Team Manager to the World Transplant Games held in Manchester in 1995. Gary did not stop there, as he was also involved with the Sports Council for the Disabled as our (NSW Branch) delegate.
In 1997 Australia hosted the XI World Transplant Games held in Sydney and Gary once again stepped into the position as Games Chairman. That same year Gary was also awarded life membership with Transplant Australia.
Gary's passing has affected all those who knew him well but we are all happy with the experience of having known him during his 14 years of extended life. The NSW Branch committee and Transplant Australia members nationally extend our greatest sympathy to his wife Gloria, his son Gary, daughter Natalie and other members of their family.
