Community Engagement
CEPP Aug 2011
How far would you go to save a life?
Every day we are bombarded with messages, most of a commercial nature through advertising on TV, radio, in newspapers and on the internet. It’s an industry which is worth billions of dollars and marketers are always looking for innovative ways to spread their message.
There is one form of communication that the sophisticated marketer prides above all others – word of mouth (WOM).
New movies for example will often make or break it on that first weekend’s word of mouth as moviegoers spread the word about the merits of the latest release.
And advertisers often seed ideas through universities to help establish a product’s value before advertising in the mainstream media.
The power of the individual voice, used responsibly and ethically, is unsurpassed even in these modern days of communication.
This is why Transplant Australia is equipping those passionate about organ and tissue donation and transplantation with the tools to deliver a message to all Australians through the power of the voice.
Our Community Champions are ideally placed to spread the word about donation. They come from all walks of life and different socio-economic backgrounds. However, they all have something in common: they have been touched by something profoundly emotional and moving.
Recipients have been given that extra chance at life, living donors have given others a chance to live, and donor families appreciate that sometimes something positive can come from a personal tragedy.
For many years we have called on Australians to ‘sign on to save lives’. Now, through this Community Engagement Program, we are able to demonstrate the very people whose lives have been saved by donation. Living proof – what more evidence do Australians need to understand the benefits of donation?
The underlying strength of this program is that it has been professionally prepared; it is built on solid evidence about what it takes to encourage and convince Australians to support donation; and its success will be constantly measured and reviewed to enable the program to evolve.
It will enable all those passionate about donation to ‘sing from the same hymn sheet’. It will also allow them to present a professional image and feel confident, knowing that they have the support of Transplant Australia and the Department of Health and Ageing in the delivery of this information.
Transplant Australia is committed to raising awareness about organ and tissue donation and transplantation. We are confident that with your support through this program, more Australians will understand the benefits of discussing donation with their loved ones.
