About Transplant Australia

Transplant Australia is the largest support organisation of its kind in the world representing over 7000 members of all ages. Our membership includes; people who are currently undergoing dialysis treatment; transplant recipients, those awaiting transplantation, and their families; family members of deceased donors; living donors and medical professionals.

We have been operating for over 25 years and have branches in New South Wales/Australian Capital Territory, Victoria/Tasmania, Queensland, South Australia/Northern Territory and Western Australia.

Transplant Australia is committed to increasing the number of transplants performed in Australia.

What do we do?

Transplant Australia is a registered charity which provides services to our members including:

• Raising awareness of the need for organ and tissue donation and transplantation through functions, media and events;

• Providing support services for our members e.g. counseling, financial, transportation, accommodation assistance, medical information;

• Running the Australian Transplant Games and encouraging participation in the World Transplant Games and the Australian Transplant Cricket Club;
• Providing opportunities for members to participate in recreational activities;
• Fostering interaction between members including those awaiting transplantation, those undergoing dialysis treatment, transplant recipients, family members of deceased donors, living donors and supporters;
• Aboriginal transplant awareness and staying healthy activities;
• Conducting a survey with Pfizer Pharmaceutical Company to determine Australians attitudes towards organ and tissue donation and transplantation;
• Providing programs which raise awareness of kidney disease, the importance of early stage detection and ways to avoid it;
• Lobbying for improved access to dialysis for people undergoing dialysis treatment in Australia;
• Lobbying for vital drugs for transplant recipients to be approved on the pharmaceutical benefits scheme;
• Acknowledging all Living Donors in Australia through a national distribution of Star Pins and Certificates.
