2002 Gold Coast - Queensland
The 8th Australian Transplant Games was staged on the Gold Coast, Queensland, from September 29 to October 6, 2002.
Approximately 1,000 participants, comprising transplant recipients, those awaiting transplantation, donor families and supporters came from all States of Australia as well as China, England, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, Sweden, Thailand and the USA.
To be eligible to compete in the Games, which consisted of 12 sporting events and five recreational events, a competitor had to be on dialysis or have received one of the following transplants:- kidney, heart, lung, heart-lung, liver, pancreas, small/large intestine, corneal or bone marrow.
